Learn More Increasing Visibility CCUIH’s work assures that Urban Indians are not overlooked in planning efforts to address health care access and health disparities of minority groups and positions the Urban Indian population as an important constituent in addressing community health in underserved populations. We increase visibility for American Indian communities in California and for Native health issues. Leading Community Engagement CCUIH leads community-driven Urban Indian public awareness campaigns. CCUIH also leads American Indian patient engagement strategies including Patient Advisory Councils, Trauma-Informed Health Systems, and Traditional Indian Programming Creating Systems Change CCUIH produces culturally specific programming and services that effect change in health systems aimed at reducing American Indian health disparities. We promote the integration of culturally adapted systems and approaches that provide high quality care and access Our Guiding Principles What Makes Our Approach Important Words From Our Executive Director People often ask us, What is different about an Indian health clinic?” or What does culturally competent health care mean?” While there is not an Indian way to give a vaccination or no Indian way to put on a blood pressure cuff, there is a Native perspective toward wellness and healing—and the knowledge that culture is prevention. It is from that perspective that you see the strength of Indian Health Programs. And it is from that lens that you see the value of culturally centered healthcare delivery to American Indians. Jyl Marden, Founding Director of CCUIH Policy Advocacy CCUIH is a statewide leader on Urban Indian health information and related policy decisions. CCUIH monitors legislation and policy regarding local, state, and federal health care initiatives to ensure that Urban Indians are included in planning efforts to increase health care access and reduce health disparities of marginalized groups. CCUIH participates in Indian Consultation, and distributes policy briefs and position statements on relevant Urban Indian issues. Programs & Projects CCUIH engages in a diverse range of projects and public awareness campaigns aimed at optimizing health care delivery at Urban Indian clinics and raising consciousness surrounding health issues affecting Urban Indian communities. Visit our Programs and Projects page to read about our work.
